The continuous curves of an Awaji knot, with smoky quartz moving softly below.
Inspired by the traditional Japanese Awaji-musubi knot, the Awaji Earrings No. 1 explore the beauty of a form that becomes more firmly tied as its ends are drawn together.
Multiple layers of silver-toned Mizuhiki create a sculptural form with open space, bringing a sense of dimension and movement to the earrings.
At our Tokyo studio, washi paper cord is carefully tied and shaped by hand into a dimensional Awaji-musubi form. Two smoky quartz beads are placed along the soft curve beneath the knot, moving gently with you and catching the light as they shift.
At approximately 1.9 g per earring, they are light and easy to wear, adding a subtle sense of movement to everyday dressing.
Pair them with the Awaji Necklace No. 1 for a natural connection between the matching Awaji-musubi and smoky quartz details.

Handcrafted in Tokyo
Each pair is handcrafted in our Tokyo studio.
The Mizuhiki is tied and shaped by hand, so the form of each knot, the tension of the curves, and the surface may vary slightly from one piece to another.
These small differences are part of the character of handmade work.
About the Awaji-musubi
Awaji-musubi is one of the traditional knot forms used in Japanese Mizuhiki.
Its distinctive shape is formed by two interwoven loops, and when the ends are pulled, the knot tightens rather than coming undone. Because of this characteristic, the knot is sometimes associated with lasting connections and strong bonds.
At TOKI, we are drawn to both the balanced structure of the knot and its continuous curves, and reinterpret this traditional form as dimensional jewelry for everyday wear.

Care
The core of the Mizuhiki is made from twisted washi paper cord.
To help preserve its form and finish, avoid contact with water, moisture, hair products, perfumes, and other cosmetics.
After wearing, gently wipe the earrings with a soft cloth and store them in the provided box in a cool, dry place.
